French Onion Soup

MakeupbyDionnaD .

Today’s recipe is a viewer request from my fellow YouTube sister Dionna! She has requested that I make my version of French Onion Soup. I thought about it, and humbly accepted the challenge.

French Onion Soup is one of those comfort foods for anytime of year that can be a side or stand alone. What a perfect dish for one of these brisk nights. Enough talk, let’s get to it!

What you will need:

6-8 Sliced White Onions

1/8 Tsp Salt or to taste

1/8 Tsp of Pepper or to taste

1/8 Tsp of Garlic Powder or to taste

1 carton of Beef Broth

2 Tbsp of Worcestershire Sauce

1 Tbsp of Browning Sauce

1 Tbsp of Oil (Avocado, Olive, or Your Choice)

1 Loaf of French Bread

1 Bag of Shredded Swiss and Gruyere

1/2 pound of Sliced Provolone

Dried Parsley (Optional)

Cook:

In a large pot or skillet add oil, onions, salt and pepper. Cook over medium heat and stir. Cook the onions until they caramelize. Once the onions are deep brown in color add beef broth. Stir to combine. Add worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Continue to stir. Let simmer on low for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes add browning sauce and stir. Leave soup to simmer on low and toast the french bread.

Assembly:

In a small bowl or dutch oven, ladle hot soup in. Then add a piece a of french bread and shredded swiss/gruyere cheese. Finally place the slice provolone on the top. Place it on a baking sheet and into the oven.

Broil:

When melting the cheese, make sure the broiler is on low. Be sure to check it every few minutes to check how the cheese is melting. Once it has melted, it is time to serve.

Serve:

You can serve the soup with some additional pieces of  french bread on the side and enjoy! Oh and sprinkle a little dried parsley on top..,you’ll thank me later.

Happy Cooking ♥
